Savory tastes and home-grown beauty await visitors who join the second annual Fall Farm Tour & Tasting
A behind-the-scenes opportunity to celebrate the bountiful harvest
of Humboldt’s family farms. The tour runs from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on
October 1st and will include five farms from Jacoby Creek to Dow’s
Prairie, with music, wine-tasting, and samples of regional foods from
numerous visiting farmers including Henry’s Olives! This exciting and
unique event highlights the importance of farming to our community and
our culture.
Families and foodies will all enjoy...
meandering through fields, chatting with local growers, and tasting
the produce and products of Humboldt County agriculture. Diverse in
nature, the self-guided tour includes farms with a range of
specialties: nursery operations, mixed-row cropping, poultry,
value-added enterprises, and Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA). The
tour will feature wines from both Winnett and Coates Vineyards and
entertainment by local music celebrities Wrangletown, Devil’s Dream,
and Eileen Hemphill-Hailey.
Family farms provide the basis for food security
And are vital to the economic strength, environmental stewardship,
and cultural identity of Humboldt County. Yet through increased
consolidation of farm and food enterprises, the story of our food –
where it grows, and who grows it – is often lost in the journey from
field to table. The Fall Farm Tour & Tasting seeks to help
reconnect our community with the farms that feed us and bolster support
for family farmers in our community. Together, we can ensure the
availability of affordable, healthy food for Humboldt County families,
for years to come.
The Fall Farm Tour & Tasting is a program of Friends of Humboldt County Farmers’ Markets
Formed in 2004 by a group of innovative farmers to educate our
community about local food systems. Friends has recently become a
successful project of the Humboldt County Community Alliance with
Family Farmers (CAFF) chapter. CAFF is a statewide movement building
unity between rural and urban people to foster family-scale agriculture
that cares for the land, sustains local economies, and promotes social
justice.
Tickets for the Fall Farm Tour & Tasting are $10
